Ready to Hang

Be Who You Are  ($75 + $12 shipping)

My companions and I moved quietly through the abandoned St. Agnes Cathedral in Detroit. The only sounds you heard were the crunching of broken glass and plaster beneath our boots and the clicking of our shutters. No words were spoken as we concentrated on our art and our private thoughts. Who were we? Photographers - or the sorrowful ghosts of worshipers long gone?

Reflections of Detroit

($75 + $12 shipping)

It had been one of our first warm days in March that I went out for the day with my camera. We were shooting the sunset on Belle Isle and decided to go home when it looked like all the color had left the sky - but first, one more trip around the island. As we neared the bridge that took us back to Detroit, I saw that the river had smoothed out and the Detroit skyline was reflected in the water. It was then that I cried out
the call of the photographer: "Stop the car!!!!"

salvation.

The Fist ($75 + $12 shipping)

"This Fist" is a monument to boxer Joe Louis in downtown Detroit. Most don't know the meaning behind the sculpture, and many think it to be belligerent and "in your face." In fact, it represents the power of Joe Louis's punch both inside and outside the ring. Because of his efforts to fight Jim Crow laws, the fist was symbolically aimed toward racial
injustice.

I took this photograph early on an autumn Sunday morning in 2015. As the sun was rising, the city was slowly coming to life with people walking and jogging along the streets.

The Approach ($75 + $12 shipping)

A "nervous" flyer, I nonetheless jumped at the opportunity to photograph Detroit from the air in a small plane. As the four seater plane bobbed down the runway I held my breath and wondered what the heck I was thinking of when I signed up for this trip. Yet, as we were approaching the City of Detroit, Michigan at 1,200 feet my fears were all forgotten as my camera snapped away.
